License Types and Requirements

  • Radiology
  • Type of License Qualifications required for granting license
    Radiographer Education:
    Certificate of associate diploma in radiography or its equivalent from one of the accredited colleges or institutions

    Experience:
    None required
    Radiologic technologist Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in radiography or equivalent from one of the accredited college universities

    Experience:
    None required


  • Physiotherapy
  • Type of License Qualifications required for granting license
    Physiotherapy technician Education:
    Associate diploma in physiotherapy or equivalent from one of the accredited colleges or institutions (minimum 2 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    None required
    Physiotherapist Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy or equivalent from one of the accredited college universities (minimum 4 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    None required
    Specialized physiotherapist Education:
    Master’s degree OR PhD in one of the physiotherapy specializations from one of the accredited universities

    Experience:
    Minimum 5 years in the field of specialization.


  • Nutrition
  • Type of License Qualifications required for granting license
    Diet technician Education:
    Nutrition diploma or its equivalent from one of the accredited colleges or institutions (minimum 2 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    None required
    Nutritionist Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in nutrition

    Experience:
    None required
    Clinical nutritionist (Dietician) Education: Bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition (dietetics)

    Experience:
    None required


  • Dentistry
  • Type of License Qualifications required for granting license
    Oral and dental hygiene technician Education:
    Associate degree or equivalent in the field of oral and dental hygiene from one of the accredited colleges and institutes (minimum 2 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    None required
    First oral and dental hygiene technician Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in oral and dental hygiene from one of the accredited college universities (minimum 4 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    None required
    Prosthodontics technician Education:
    Associate degree or equivalent in the field of prosthodontics from one of the accredited colleges and institutes (minimum 2 years of academic studies after secondary school)

    Experience:
    Minimum 1 year

How to Apply

  • New License
    Here you can learn about the key steps of obtaining a new license for allied health professionals in Bahrain.
    Key Steps
    1. Apply for a position as an allied health professional in Bahrain and get a job offer (non-Bahrainis only)
    2. Obtain a work permit from your prospective employer (non-Bahrainis only)
    3. Retrieve an application form from your prospective employer, or the Licensure Office, or download it from the website
    4. Get a medical fitness exam at Al Razy Health Center (Phone (973) 1 725 6888) in order to get a health fitness certificate (for locals only, non-locals should do fitness test upon arrival to Bahrain)
    5. Fill out the application form
    6. Submit the compeleted application form to the Licensure Office by mail or in person together with the work permit, 2 recent photographs, copy of birth certificate, copy of front pages of passport showing full name and nationality, copy of CPR (if you have one), statutory evidence of any name change, educational and professional certificates, transcript, CV, a copy of registration in another country, and a copy of the health fitness certificate issued by Al Razy health center
    7. The Licensure Office will contact you to schedule an exam
    8. Take the exam at the appropriate department in the Ministry of Health
    9. The allied health committee and allied profession registrar will review your file, make a decision regarding licensure and prepare your license
    10. Receive notification that your license has been approved or rejected from Licensure Office either by phone, email or mail
    11. If approved, go to the cashier at the Directorate of Finance at the Ministry of Health and pay the license fee
    12. Bring your receipt to the Licensure Office where you can pick up the license


  • Renew License
    Here you can learn about the key steps of renewing your license in Bahrain.
    Key steps
    1. Retrieve an application form from the Licensure Office or download it from the website
    2. Fill out the application form
    3. Submit entire application together with reference letter from current or previous employer by mail or in person
    4. Wait for the allied profession registrar to review your file
    5. Receive notification from the Licensure Office by phone, email or mail that your license renewal has been approved or rejected
    6. If approved, bring your old license to the cashier at the Directorate of Finance at the Ministry of Health and pay for the license
    7. Bring your receipt together with your old license to the Licensure Office where you can pick up your renewed license

There are two different application forms for allied health professionals:

  1. Application Form for initial license to practice
  2. Application Form for renewal of license to practice

 

Fees

Here you can find the current license fees for allied health professionals in Bahrain. Note that licensure fees are subjected to periodical review by the Ministry of Health

Renewal of license registration BD 20
Re-issue of lost license Free

License fees should be paid at the cashier in the Directorate of Finance at the Ministry of Health.
